Well, Bea has been with me for 4 months now. After 3 months of trying different medicines, food and food additives, finally her digestive issues have gotten better. What a relief for both of us.
Since it is now well into fall and the temperatures are falling, I’ve made some adjustments for Bea. For one thing, I keep the thermostat a little bit higher than I would for just myself or for the furry cats I had in the past. I have a few bedding options for her. A heated bed, a blanket on the couch, and an igloo-like bed that gets some sun during the day.
Funny thing is that Bea loved the heated bed in the summer and early fall. Now she prefers being under a blanket. For several days in a stretch a month ago, she was only in the igloo bed. So why like the heated bed (and be covered with a light blanket) when it’s 75 degrees and prefer just a blanket when it’s 68-70? What can I say, she is a cat, and has her unique preferences which I won’t try to figure out. I just keep all 3 options available to her. She also has a few t-shirts to help keep her warm. She walks like the shirt is very heavy when she’s wearing one, but doesn’t seem to mind otherwise. I never thought I’d ever dress a pet. At least I didn’t put a Halloween costume on her. At least not this year…
She does not like getting a bath, something that is a necessity with a hairless Sphynx cat. Without fur, the oils on their skin accumulate on the skin and they get greasy and a bit brown. So I just do it as fast as I can to diminish what she probably sees as almost torture. After the 1st 2 tries I now wear a fleece long-sleeved shirt to prevent scratches on my arms or back, but I’ve gotten better at holding her so she can’t climb up me and down my back to escape. She sure does look pretty when she is all clean!
All in all, Bea and I have settled into a routine of sorts and we both seem happier for her being here with me.
